Sit Back, Relax, and Alleviate Anxiety in Pediatric Patients
With An Chih “Angela” Do, RDH, MEd, MAADH
According to the World Health Organization, the fear of going to the dentist, Odontophobia, is a real disease which affects 15-20% of the population. Further studies indicate the development of dental fear and anxiety (DFA) has an increased prevalence between seven and nine years old. DFA can affect anyone but children are particularly susceptible. Adults who experience DFA can discover the origins of it manifested at a young age. Dental fear and anxiety can lead to serious repercussions to one’s oral health and is considered to be a significant barrier in receiving dental care. This course will discuss the factors which affect dental anxiety and the behavior guidance approaches to alleviate DFA.
An Chih (Angela) Do, RDH, MEd, MAADH is a dynamic speaker that brings impactful and resourceful information to clinicians. Angela’s background in film and television, allows her creativity to expand beyond the operatory and into her presentations. Whether Angela is teaching hands-on laser courses, providing resources for dental professionals to combat human trafficking, or educating on appropriate language to use with pediatric patients, Angela always delivers an informative but captivating program.
