Course Description:

This course equips participants with the skills to identify and assess oral health risks within community populations. Participants will learn to design and implement strategies aimed at promoting oral health and preventing diseases by assessing community's needs and resources. Through evaluating program outcomes and utilizing epidemiological principles, participants will be prepared to not only excel in the subject matter for their board exam, but also effectively contribute their knowledge to community oral health systems.

Course objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Identify risks in a community’s population and develop profile assessment within community groups.
  • Design strategies to promote community’s oral health and develop health initiatives for health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Assess oral health needs of the community and identify available services and resources.
  • Evaluate program outcomes and apply epidemiology in community oral health systems.
  • About the presenter:

    Bhumika Patel is a professor at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. She practices clinically in San Francisco and is the current president of the Delta Pacific Dental Hygienists Association. She holds a B.A in Linguistics & Communication and B.S. in Dental Hygiene. She also has a M.S in Dental Hygiene with an emphasis on Dental Education. Bhumika exemplifies an unwavering passion for teaching and empowering the next generation of oral health practitioners.
