This engaging and informative course is designed specifically for dental professionals seeking a thorough understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, infection control practices, and bloodborne pathogens management within the dental setting. As healthcare providers, dental professionals play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for both patients and staff.

By the end of this course, participants will have gained a comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations, infection control practices, and bloodborne pathogens training and review specific to the dental profession. Armed with this knowledge, dental professionals will be better equipped to create a safe, sterile, and compliant environment in their practices, ensuring the well-being of both patients and dental healthcare providers.

Course objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Review and understand the OSHA regulations as applicable to the dental team - from Bloodborne Pathogens Standards to Hazard Communication Standards.
  • Leave with the updated infection control best practices - PPE selection and use, sterilization and disinfection for instruments and equipment, and environmental infection control measures.
  • Be more prepared for an emergency and the unexpected in the office.
  • Learn the latest on recordkeeping and documentation for the practice and the team’s employee records.

    With over 25 years of clinical, educational, and business experience in the dental field, Penny Maurer, CDA brings a unique perspective to today’s dental scenarios from a clinical and management viewpoint. Penny has helped numerous dental assistants achieve their goals and expand their knowledge. Penny has an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of dental assistants, business team members, and managers. Drawing from the wealth of experience in both the clinical and administrative aspects of the dental practice, she brings a unique blend of practical insights and visionary thinking to every presentation and teaching opportunity. Penny completed her dental assisting education at Concordia University – Mequon. She brings real-world experience from the trenches of being a Certified Dental Assistant, to teaching for 12 years in a technical college dental assisting program, and contributing to the Dental Assisting National Board’s certification exam. She currently manages a successful private practice in Wisconsin and continues to assist chairside when her body allows. She is armed and ready to help you navigate some real-life scenarios. During her free time, Penny enjoys hiking, pickleball, boating/kayaking, snowshoeing, and motorcycling.
