Course objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain radiation history, imaging basics, dental radiation safety, dosage and ALARA principles.
- Identify intra-oral and extra-oral radiography types and their clinical application.
- Discuss common dental radiographic techniques, methods, and procedures.
- Describe head and neck anatomy for radiology landmarks and troubleshooting methods for quality assurance.
- Analyze various types of oral radiographs and assess their diagnostic capabilities.
About the presenter:
Bhumika Patel, RDH, MS, FADHA, CDIPC is an educator and academic leader at the University of California, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. She is deeply passionate about education and supporting the clinical success of students and new clinicians as they transition into confident, competent practice. With over 10 years of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist, Bhumika has practiced in both private practice and the U.S. Armed Forces, bringing real-world clinical insight into her teaching.
She is actively involved in professional leadership, having served as a component president of the California Dental Hygienists’ Association, and currently contributes to the profession as a writer and editor for the CDHA Journal. Bhumika is a member of the American Dental Education Association and a member and fellow of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association.
As she pursues a Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis on leadership and innovation, her scholarly work focuses on emotional intelligence in dental education and practice. Her research reflects a strong commitment to wholehearted, compassionate patient care and the development of clinicians who lead with both technical excellence and empathy.
