Cloudy with a Chance of Upcoming NBDHE: Biomaterials Review
Presented by: Emily Boge
Course Description:
Composites, cement, ceramics, metals, polymers, bonding agents... oh my! Biomaterials can feel like a lot to remember when preparing for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. This in-depth, one hour review is designed to help dental hygiene students reactivate what they already know and organize the high yield biomaterials concepts most relevant to board preparation. Through visual review, memory cues, clinical connections, and board style concepts, participants will revisit material properties, composition, manipulation, indications, and clinical applications while strengthening their ability to distinguish between commonly confused materials. The goal is simple: refresh the science, connect it to clinical practice, and make biomaterials a little easier to recall when it matters most.
Course objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Recall key properties, terminology, and characteristics associated with commonly encountered dental biomate.
- Differentiate biomaterials based on composition, physical properties, clinical indications, and limitations.
- Apply biomaterials knowledge to clinical and board style questions encountered during national examination preparation.
