Women's Health & Hormones for the Dental Hygienist

With Dana Paladino, RDH, MS

Course Description:

In the “Women’s Health & Hormones for the Hygienist” session, participants will explore how the physical, mental, and environmental demands of dental hygiene work can impact their own hormonal balance. The course highlights factors such as stress, schedules, and physical workload, while providing evidence-based strategies to support hormonal health, reduce burnout, and promote overall well-being. Attendees will leave with practical tools to protect their health while maintaining a sustainable clinical practice.

Because dental hygiene is a proudly female-dominated industry, I do want to note that the material in this lecture will be relevant for any person containing ovaries, or who once had ovaries, but if you are attending today, and you do not have ovaries (past or present), the bulk of this information still is relevant for overall and total health. This information is also relevant in patient management and recognizing hormonal changes that may impact the patient’s overall health.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe how stress, schedule irregularities, and physical demands can influence hormonal balance in dental hygienists.
  • Identify key hormones affected by work-related factors, including estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol.
  • Recognize early signs of hormonal imbalance and its potential effects on health and performance.
  • Implement practical strategies to support hormonal health, including lifestyle, nutrition, and self-care interventions.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to maintain well-being and resilience in the dental hygiene profession.

About the Presenter:

Dana Paladino, RDH, MS, is the founder of Dental Hygiene Basics, an educational platform helping future hygienists enter the profession, succeed in school, and prepare for board examinations. Through tutoring, educational courses, podcast content, and mentorship, Dana has built a growing community dedicated to supporting future hygienists throughout their journey. Her goal is to award $100,000 in scholarships to future dental hygienists by 2035. Dana is also an ADEX board examiner, StudentRDH faculty member, podcast host, speaker, and tutor.
