When It’s Not the Right Fit
Hosted in partnership with BloomRDH
Real-world mentorship for dental professionals navigating what comes after graduation.
Course Description
Sometimes the hardest career lesson is realizing that a job can look right on paper and still not be the right fit for you.
Maybe the culture feels off. Maybe expectations are different than what you were promised. Maybe you’re constantly questioning yourself, dreading your shifts, or wondering whether you should give it more time.
This interactive mentorship session is designed to help dental professionals recognize the difference between normal new-job growing pains and signs that a workplace may genuinely not align with their values, goals, or needs. We’ll talk through how to address concerns professionally, advocate for change, evaluate your options, and know when it may be time to move on.
Most importantly, you’ll learn how to navigate a difficult workplace or career transition without allowing one experience to define your confidence, abilities, or future in dentistry.
What to Expect
This is an interactive mentorship session, not a traditional lecture. Cameras will be on and participation is encouraged.
Bring a workplace situation you’re currently navigating—or one you’re unsure how to handle. Whether you’re questioning an office culture, struggling with expectations, considering resignation, or simply wondering what’s “normal,” this is your opportunity to talk it through and receive practical guidance.
Can’t attend every session? No problem. You’re welcome to join any session that works for you, and the mentorship series repeats regularly, so you’ll have another opportunity to catch topics you miss.
What You’ll Walk Away With
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify signs that a workplace may not align with their professional values, expectations, or career goals.
- Apply professional communication strategies to address workplace concerns and advocate for appropriate change.
- Evaluate when it may be appropriate to remain in a position, seek improvement, or pursue a new opportunity.
- Navigate resignation and career transitions professionally while maintaining confidence in their skills and future.
About the Mentorship Program
Dental hygiene school prepares you to become a clinician—but some of the hardest parts of entering the profession can only be learned through experience.
Created for students, recent graduates, and dental professionals looking for additional support, this live mentorship series tackles the real-world situations that aren’t always covered in school. Led by Kim Augustus, RDH and founder of BloomRDH, sessions explore topics like workplace communication, confidence, interviews, career decisions, boundaries, difficult situations, and navigating your first years in practice.
Think of it as the guidance you wish came with your diploma.
Meet Your Mentor
Kimberly Augustus, RDH, is the founder of BloomRDH and a dental hygienist with more than a decade of clinical experience and nearly 10 years in dental education.
After recognizing how many new hygienists leave school clinically prepared but still feel uncertain navigating the realities of professional life, Kim created BloomRDH to help bridge that gap. Through mentorship, education, and honest conversations about the profession, she helps dental hygiene students and new professionals build confidence, advocate for themselves, and navigate their careers with greater clarity.
Her goal is simple: to make sure new hygienists don’t have to figure everything out alone.
