”De-Stress Your Way to Health: Getting to the Heart of Burnout”

Course Description:
In this session, we will explore how everyday stress can evolve into chronic conditions and burnout. Our focus is on recognizing how stress manifests and its significant impacts on mental and physical health. We’ll also delve into the unique pressures faced by dental hygienists that increase their vulnerability to stress-related conditions. Rather than only addressing external factors, such as others’ behaviors or setting boundaries, we will shift the focus inward. You will learn methods aimed at restoring internal balance and supporting genuine healing. This includes the importance of prioritizing personal well-being and how building a strong foundation improves confidence, strengthens boundaries, and promotes a life of balance and fulfillment. We will also discuss why some traditional approaches may unintentionally worsen stress. During this session, you will be introduced to practical techniques that empower you to take control of your physical and mental health. These approaches will provide you with the tools to process stress productively, regulate your nervous system, and reduce burnout. Hands-on exercises will help you integrate these methods into your daily routine, promoting long-term resilience and well-being. By the end of this session, you will have a deeper understanding of how to manage stress from within, rise above burnout, and create a more balanced, fulfilling life.

Course objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of how stress dysregulates the nervous system, and its impact on our health & well-being.
  • Explore why dental hygienists are particularly vulnerable to stress, burnout, and the limitations of traditional coping strategies.
  • Discover practical techniques to restore balance and promote healing in and outside of the workplace.
  • Engage in hands-on activities to integrate these stress management tools into daily routines.

    Heather DeJonge RDH, CSMC, RYT is a Registered Dental Hygienist, Certified Stress Management Coach, and Registered Yoga Teacher specializing in somatics, mindfulness, and burnout recovery. Drawing on her deeply personal journey through burnout, a mental health crisis and stress management, Heather has developed a unique and holistic approach to finding balance, creating health and enjoying life in and out of the operatory.
