Staging & Grading Success: The Spark Method in Motion
Presented by: Marvelyn Navarro
Course Description:
Effective periodontal therapy begins with a sharp eye, sound judgment, and a plan that moves seamlessly from diagnosis to action. Marvelyn Navarro, RDH, introduces her SPARK Method, a framework designed to ignite clarity and confidence in clinical decision-making. Building on the foundation of the ADPIE process, this course integrates staging and grading as a clinical compass, guiding clinicians from accurate diagnosis to successful implementation.
Participants will first revisit the Assessment and Diagnosis phases, sharpening their skills in gathering meaningful data—probing depths, bleeding scores, systemic influences, and behavioral risks—and translating findings into precise staging and grading. Next, the focus shifts to Planning, where attendees will learn to craft personalized, evidence-based care strategies that address both oral and systemic health, while overcoming common barriers to patient acceptance. Finally, the series culminates in Implementation in Motion, where clinical execution takes center stage. Through case studies, decision-making models, and treatment demonstrations, clinicians will explore how to manage complex cases with deep pocketing, systemic risks, and challenging anatomical features using advanced tools and protocols.
By the end of this series, participants will leave with practical strategies to elevate diagnostic accuracy, streamline care planning, and confidently deliver customized periodontal therapy that supports long-term patient health and stability.
Course objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify key clinical data points—including probing depths, bleeding indices, systemic conditions, and behavioral risks—and apply them to stage accurately and grade periodontitis.
- Analyze assessment findings to formulate evidence-based, patient-centered treatment plans that integrate oral and systemic health considerations.
- Apply decision-making models and the ADPIE process to streamline planning and implementation of periodontal therapy.
- Demonstrate clinical strategies for managing complex cases with deep pocketing, systemic risk factors, and anatomical challenges using advanced tools and protocols.
