Course Description:

This course explores the use of backward design as a framework for planning effective dental hygiene instruction. Participants will focus on establishing purposeful learning, aligning evaluation methods with desired outcomes, and selecting teaching approaches that promote active learning. This course emphasizes intentional course planning to enhance student achievement and instructional clarity within dental hygiene education.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define clear, measurable learning objectives that align with curricular standards and student needs.
  • Create appropriate assessments that accurately measure student understanding and performance relative to the established learning objectives.
  • Develop strategies for designing instructional activities that foster student engagement and support diverse learning styles.

About the Presenter:

Kelsey works with dental hygiene students and professionals to learn more about themselves and grow their confidence. As a Gallup Certified Clifton Strengths Coach, she mentors with passion in a down-to-earth manner. She genuinely loves seeing people set their goals high and reach beyond them!

With over 20 years of dental hygiene experience, she has gained valuable experience in both clinical hygiene and dental education. She has also been a CPR and First Aid Instructor. Guiding student learning through backwards course design and engaging presentations, Kelsey seeks opportunities to bring the evolving dental industry to her students and build lifelong learners.

She values the mentorship of those who have been leaders in her life and speaks on the true gift of networking and building a supportive environment. Kelsey believes that by gaining and nurturing our confidence, we can bring our best selves to all aspects of our profession and our own personal missions.
