Minimally invasive dentistry is revolutionizing the way we manage caries and preserve tooth structure. This course explores evidence-based techniques and emerging innovations designed to halt or reverse dental decay without traditional drilling and filling. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how to detect caries earlier and then fortify those areas with, Silver Fluorides, P11-4 peptides, povidone-iodine, and probiotics are transforming preventive and restorative care. Through case-based discussions and practical applications, clinicians will learn to integrate these cutting-edge tools into their daily practice to provide more patient-friendly and effective treatment.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Explain the principles of minimally invasive dentistry and identify modern strategies for preserving tooth structure, including advanced caries detection methods.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and clinical applications of caries-arresting agents such as silver fluorides, povidone-iodine, and probiotics in preventive care.
- Discuss biomimetic approaches to enamel repair and remineralization, focusing on P11-4 peptides and nano-hydroxyapatite as alternatives or adjuncts to traditional fluoride therapy.
- Integrate emerging, evidence-based tools into daily practice to enhance patient outcomes through conservative and patient-friendly caries management.
About the Presenter:
Shelley Brown, MEd, BSDH, RDH, FADHA, is a dental educator, speaker, content creator and mobile clinician dedicated to advancing accessible and innovative dentistry. As co-owner of HYGIENE edgeUCATORS, LLC she empowers dental educators through professional development. Since 2009, she has taught at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene and founded Homebound Smiles, LLC a mobile dental practice serving underserved patients. She also runs Shelley.Dental, a YouTube and TikTok platform focused on patient education and minimally invasive dentistry.
Shelley was a co-founder of Hygiene Edge, where she played a key role in growing the educational platform to over 100,000 YouTube subscribers and earning a Silver Play Button for its impact on dental education. She served on the 2023 RDH Magazine Advisory Board and has been recognized as a Top 50 Leader in Teledentistry, as well as a three-time Denobi Award nominee.
