Our Dental Hygienist is a key member of our clinical team at NY Smiles Dental. You will work with dentists and dental assistants to promote long-term oral health for a diverse group of patients.
This position is for a licensed and compassionate professional who values clinical excellence and patient-centered care within a collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive & Clinical Care
Perform oral health assessments, review dental and medical histories, and screen for oral diseases like cavities and gum disease.
Perform dental cleanings, including polishing, scaling and root planing, and stain removal.
Apply fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and desensitizing agents when appropriate.
Take, develop, and interpret dental radiographs (X-rays).
Maintain accurate and HIPAA-compliant patient records and charting.
Assist in identifying potential treatment needs for follow-up by the dentist.
Patient Education & Health Promotion
Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and nutritional habits to maintain oral health.
Provide post-treatment instructions and explain home-care recommendations.
Clearly and compassionately communicate treatment plans and findings.
Help motivate patients toward consistent oral hygiene habits and follow-up appointments.
Safety & Sterilization
Adhere to infection control guidelines from OSHA, CDC, and the NYS Department of Health.
Sterilize instruments and disinfect treatment areas between patients.
Maintain an organized and fully stocked operatory.
Report equipment maintenance needs or clinical hazards.
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
1+ Year work experience required, 2+ years preferred.
Current and unrestricted New York State Dental Hygienist license.
Proficiency in dental charting software and digital radiography (e.g., Dentrix Ascend).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate patients.
Detail-oriented, team-focused, and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice.
Friendly, team-oriented, and able to complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Fluency in English is required and bilingual fluency with Spanish is preferred.
Strong proactive and problem-solving skills.
