Mitten Kids Dentistry aims to provide the highest level of pediatric dental care for kids of all ages-whatever their needs-in a fun, positive and safe environment.

The Dental Assistant at Mitten Kids Dentistry is the caretaker of the patients we treat by working to provide a calm, safe, and positive experience while assisting the doctor in all aspects of the treatment provided to children of all ages and needs. They are an extension of the doctors, highly trained and knowledgeable, gurus of behavior management, gentle and confident in delivering and overseeing care, using their skills and potentiel to the full extent. In addition, they work as a team with other assistants and clinical team members.
This position is for Monday at our Grand Rapids location and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at our Caledonia location.

A Day in the Life of a Dental Assistant at Mitten Kids Dentistry
On any given day at Mitten Kids you can expect to encounter the following:
-Arriving between 7:30-7:40am to be ready to go at 7:45am for our morning huddle with the team.
-Patient care begins at 8:00 am.
-Complete beginning of the day checklist duties.
-Work with a team of other assistants and hygienists, depending on the clinical schedule. This may include assisting with dental procedures under general anesthesia, conscious sedation, or routine dental care.
-Oversee a column of patients to assist 5-10 patients depending on the procedure and schedule.
-Escort the patient, sometimes the parent, to and from the treatment room to have their treatment completed, sometimes taking digital radiographs, explaining and answering questions about the --planned treatment for their appointment.
-Work to provide a fun, calm, and safe experience for the patient, often with the use of nitrous oxide and a movie or show for the patient to watch during the procedure on their individual TV in the treatment room, using age appropriate behavior management when needed.
-Complete clinical notes and bill out treatment using Open Dental practice management software.
-Maintain cleanliness of treatment rooms, clinical area, and the sterilization area.
-Clean operatory rooms between patients, clean and sterilize necessary instruments, stock dental supplies and materials in operatory rooms.
-The last patient typically is done by 3:30pm.
-Complete end of day checklist duties, along with any necessary weekly and monthly duties. This includes stocking rooms and organizing supplies and materials.
-Clock out around 3:30pm or earlier and head home!
