A letter to my new Registered Dental Hygienist

As a dentist who also graduated from dental hygiene school (Old Dominion University), I have tremendous respect for my dental hygiene friends and colleagues. Though I know I could still perform an adequate SRP, and though I have a background in dental hygiene, it does not mean that I am capable of truly understanding the role and have the complete up-to-date education of the periodontal fighting machine that is my RDH.

So I welcome you! I welcome you as a co-provider, addressing and treating the needs of our patients. I am well aware of the fact that RDH’s have been leaving the field. I’ve done extensive research on this subject and understand that by far the number one reason for this is a toxic work environment present in the dental office. I know that social media boards are filled with complaints of being unfavorably and unfairly labeled as divas, of being disregarded, disrespected and discouraged.

This position is for a one day per week part-time position, that has the opportunity to grow to two days per week part-time, three days, and then eventually transition to full time depending on how fast we grow, if that is what you desire and is agreed upon. We are looking for a weekly Monday OR Friday part-time RDH. This position is also intended for the go-getter and high achiever looking to grow within the office!

Our Office Hours:
Mondays and Tuesdays: 8am - 5pm
Fridays: 8am - 4pm (8am-5pm starting in June)
2-3 Saturdays per Month: 8 am - 1 pm

YOUR Work Schedule:
Mondays: 8am - 5pm
OR
Fridays: 8am - 4pm (8am-5pm starting in June)

Salary: $47 - $53 per hour dependent upon skill level and experience
To qualify for most benefits, must be full-time

Experience & Skills:
MUST HAVE at least one (1) year of clinical dental hygiene experience
MUST HAVE completed an accredited dental hygiene program
MUST BE local anesthesia certified
MUST HAVE experience with iTero scanning and CBCT
MUST HAVE or MUST BE willing to learn how to present treatment & finances to patients
MUST BE open and flexible to Assisted Hygiene in the next 6-12 months
MUST BE tech and computer-savvy
MUST BE willing to help out with front office/admin duties as needed and if called upon
MUST BE open to Production Based Bonus Pay
Excellent communication and people skills
Attention to detail and an appreciation for top-notch customer service
Well-organized and proactive at managing and streamlining processes
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently
Nitrous Oxide Sedation Certification (preferred by not required)
Cross-trained with Dental Assistant responsibilities (preferred but not required)
Cross-trained with front desk responsibilities (preferred but not required)
Experience with Oryx Practice Management Software (preferred but not required)
