Sopris Smiles is looking for a motivated, organized, and patient-focused Hygiene Assistant to support our high-performing hygiene department. Our practice focuses on comprehensive dentistry, airway and sleep health, cosmetic dentistry, and family dental care. We use advanced technology including CBCT 3D imaging, intraoral cameras, AI radiograph analysis, Solea laser dentistry, and digital workflows to provide the best possible patient experience.

The Hygiene Assistant plays a key role in helping our hygienists provide efficient, high-quality care while maintaining a smooth schedule flow.

Position Overview

The Hygiene Assistant ensures hygienists can deliver excellent patient care while maintaining an efficient schedule that allows the hygiene team to see three patients in a two-hour timeframe.

This role supports patient flow, prepares operatories, assists with documentation, and anticipates treatment needs so hygienists and doctors can focus on clinical care.

You will be the bridge between efficiency and patient care, helping every appointment run smoothly and comfortably.

ResponsibilitiesOperatory Preparation

Prepare hygiene operatories before each patient arrives including:

Prophy cassette and delivery tray setup
Prophy paste, floss, suction, and air/water tips
Ultrasonic setup
Gauze, bibs, and water unit preparation
X-ray sensors and bitewing setup
Intraoral camera preparation
Laser equipment readiness
Fluoride supplies
BP cuff and patient glasses
Assist hygienists by preparing patients for their visit:

Review and confirm medical history
Take blood pressure and vitals
Take necessary radiographs
Assist with periodontal charting
Capture intraoral photos
Perform initial intake documentation in Open Dental
Identify patient concerns and communicate them to the hygienist
Clinical Support

Prepare trays and materials for hygiene treatment
Assist with polishing and fluoride application
Prepare laser equipment when needed
Support hygienists during procedures
Anticipate additional treatment needs
Assist with documentation and chart updates
Patient Flow & Scheduling Support

Help maintain efficient patient flow
Prepare rooms for upcoming patients
Coordinate with front office for scheduling adjustments
Assist with recare scheduling when needed
Ensure proper hand-off to hygienists and doctors
Sterilization & Operatory Turnover

Disinfect operatories after patients
Transport instruments to sterilization
Assist with instrument flow and readiness
Prepare rooms for upcoming appointments

Preferred Qualifications

Dental assisting or hygiene assisting experience
Familiarity with Open Dental software
Radiology certification (preferred but not required)
Experience with digital dentistry or imaging
